Solar is the largest renewable energy industry in India, and this is evident from its market size, which could see a jump of USD 240.42 billion from 2021 to 2026. The increasing investment in the field of solar power is notably driving industry growth in the country. And it is expected to grow at a much higher rate in the coming years.
Today India stands in the fifth position of solar power deployment increased capacity of 30 GW in July 2019. And it has been possible because of the vast energy potential of the country. India receives over 5,000 trillion kWh per year of energy with most parts receiving 4-7 kWh per sq. m. per day. And this power can be harnessed to meet the energy demand.
India is developing its renewable energy resources to meet the increasing energy demand with each passing day. The country found the answer to the increasing demand for electricity in the sunshine that it gets for 300 days a year. And the nation is doing well on this front. It is increasing its capacity by making more investments. Also, companies are encouraged to switch to solar power by offering discounts.
State-Wise Installed Capacity
Andhra Pradesh:- The total installed photovoltaic capacity of the state is 4257 MW, and it is planning to add 10,050 MW to provide enough power to its farming sector so the farmers can use their equipment during the day. The state will use its pumped hydroelectric energy storage to make available solar power.
Delhi:- The capital city is leading in rooftop solar PV installations with the help of a fully flexible net metering system. The total installed capacity of the capital city is 106 MW but the government is planning to convert the 45-acre Rajghat thermal power plant into a 5 MW solar plant with the help of leading solar energy companies in India.
Gujarat:- One of the most solar-developed states, Gujarat has a total installed capacity of 4,431 MW. Also, the state has commissioned Asia's largest solar park, which generates 345 MW out of its total planned capacity of 500 MW. Also, the plant has been cited as an eco-friendly project.
Haryana:- The state has at least 330 sunny days in a year and that is why it is one of the fastest-growing states in terms of solar energy. It has a total installed and commissioned capacity of 73.27 MW. In addition, 90% subsidy is offered to farmers for using solar-powered water pumps. Also, the state has most extensive number of solar companies in India.
Karnataka:- It has become the top state in terms of solar power after having installed capacity of more than 5,000 MW. Pavagada Solar Park with a total installed capacity of 2050 MW was the largest solar park in the world in 2019.
Kerala:- Kochi International Airport is the first airport in the country to switch to solar power. But the total installed capacity of the state is 298 MW. In addition, the state is credited with setting up floating solar parks at Banasura Sagar, Idukki Dam, and Vembanad Lake.
Waaree Energies Ltd is the top-ranking solar panel making company in India followed by Tata Power Solar Systems, Vikram Solar, Adani Solar, and Microtek Solar Solutions. These are the top five PV companies in the country. Read our blog on Tea Products, Which Are The 10 Best Tea Products In India?
